When you’re cast as the lead role in a show called Ugly Betty, you’re bound to get a bit of a conscience. But fear not, there is definitely nothing ugly about America Ferrera. Twenty-six-year-old America was born in Los Angeles and began acting at an early age. Her big break came in 2006 when she landed the lead role in ABC’s Ugly Betty. The curvy actress has to down play her gorgeous Latin looks when playing this part as the show revolves around Betty – who wears braces and glasses and has a pretty dodgy wardrobe – and her life working at a high-end fashion magazine. America says she disliked her rather unusual name as a child and preferred to use her middle name, Gorgine. We don’t care what's she's called, we just know she’s smokin’ hot.
